A Ukrainian drone attack triggered a blaze at the Shatura power plant in Russia’s Moscow region on Sunday, officials said, striking one of the country’s oldest power stations about 120 kilometers east of the capital.
Regional governor Andrei Vorobyov said multiple drones crashed onto the plant’s grounds while others were downed by air defenses, causing a fire but no reported casualties.
Emergency crews remained on site as backup power and mobile heating systems were deployed amid freezing temperatures.
The strike comes as Russia continues to pound Ukraine’s energy grid, while Kyiv targets infrastructure deep inside Russia.
Moscow said its forces shot down 75 Ukrainian drones overnight, including several over the Moscow region and dozens over the Black Sea and Crimea.
