World2Day – A woman in her forties started a fire in the embassy of Kuwait in Doha, Qatar earlier today. She burnt her hand before being taken to the Hamad General Hospital for treatment.
A diplomatic liaison, who declined to be named, confirmed that a citizen of Qatar (MH) had carried out the act in the embassy after a family dispute claiming her and her 25-year-old son’s rights.
The material damage caused at the embassy as a result of the fire was not that great and the unnamed diplomatic source confirmed Qatari government’s readiness to fully compensate for the damage without having to resort to the courts.
This incident comes amidst human rights issues Qatar is facing. HBKU will explore the arbitration of human rights disputes.
