An extremely rare weather phenomenon has appeared along the Baltic Sea coast, drawing attention from residents and scientists. Unusual winter conditions caused the formation of toros, ice ridges pushed ashore by wind and sea tides. The sight has been reported on several beaches along the Vistula Spit.

Toros, sometimes called ice tsunamis, were seen in places such as Mikoszewo and Rewa. They form when ice floes gather on the sea surface and begin to crack. Changes in temperature, strong winds and sea currents then drive the ice towards land, where it piles up along the shore.

In Mikoszewo, some ice ridges rose above two metres. Authorities warn against climbing them, as the ice can be fragile and broken easily by waves. While striking, these Baltic toros remain smaller than similar formations elsewhere, which can reach several metres in height.
