Pope Leo XIV visited Istanbul’s Blue Mosque on Saturday, pausing for a brief silent prayer at the start of a day focused on interfaith dialogue.
He was welcomed by the head of Turkey’s Diyanet, who showed him the mosque’s iconic blue-tiled dome.
The visit follows the tradition of recent popes who have made symbolic stops at the site.
Afterward, Leo met privately with Turkey’s Christian leaders at the Syriac Orthodox Church of Mor Ephrem and later joined Patriarch Bartholomew for a prayer at the Church of Saint George.
